Tips for buying groceries cheaply: Hesse Consumer Center provides valuable information
Groceries are becoming more and more expensive, but there are ways consumers can still save on their purchases. The Hesse Consumer Center is organizing a free online lecture entitled “Food prices are out of control – How can I save?”, which will take place on April 27th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For interested consumers, Wiebke Franz from the consumer advice center already gives some tips that can help reduce expenses when shopping for groceries.
An important tip is to create a weekly meal plan to avoid impulse purchases. It is also advisable to buy satiating foods such as legumes, pasta and potatoes, while fruit and vegetables can only be purchased seasonally. Other money-saving tips include cooking meals at home instead of processed foods, storing foods properly to extend their shelf life, and freezing or otherwise processing leftovers.
In addition to these tips for shopping itself, there is further advice such as never going shopping hungry. Comparing the base prices of different food manufacturers and purchasing cheaper products on the bottom and top shelves can also help save money. Supermarkets and farmers markets also often offer discounted foods that are close to expiration, providing another opportunity to save on grocery purchases.
