Consumer advocates file class action lawsuit against Vodafone
Shock for ten million Vodafone customers! In 2023, the telecommunications provider increased the prices for current internet and landline contracts by five euros per month. Consumer advocates then filed a class action lawsuit to challenge this unilateral price increase. Those affected now have the opportunity to join this lawsuit, which was filed by the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv). The aim of this lawsuit is for Vodafone to reverse the price increases and refund any overpayments, including interest.
Around ten million customers are affected by this price increase. Injured parties who would like to enforce their claims must register with the Federal Office of Justice in the collective action register. Participation in the representative action is free of charge for consumers. To determine whether you can join the lawsuit, the vzbv offers a lawsuit check.
Vodafone justified the price increase in 2023 by saying that higher costs had been incurred, including for energy and materials. However, consumer advocates are of the opinion that Vodafone should not have implemented unilateral price increases for current contracts. The company, however, emphasizes that the legal requirements for the price changes have been set out in the general terms and conditions (GTC). The proceedings against Vodafone could have a signal effect for the economy.
