Consumer protection files class action lawsuit against Vodafone

Consumer protection has initiated a lawsuit against Vodafone because customers have had to pay five euros more for their internet and telephone contracts since 2023, without a sufficient legal basis. The Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (VZBZ) filed a class action lawsuit with the Hamm Higher Regional Court. Vodafone customers have the opportunity to join this lawsuit, which if successful could lead to a direct refund of their money, according to VZBZ board member Ramona Pop. There was a similar situation with Netflix and Spotify, where customers' lack of consent to price adjustments was also challenged in court.

Customers affected by the Vodafone price increase can join the lawsuit if they have an internet and/or telephone contract with Vodafone and are affected by the five euro price increase. However, mobile phone contracts with Vodafone are not the subject of the lawsuit. To take part in the process, customers must be entered into the Federal Office of Justice's lawsuit register after they can prove that they have actively agreed to the price increase. The exact repayment amount in the event of success is still unknown.

The VZBZ is also pushing forward a class action lawsuit against the streaming service DAZN. Given past price increases, customers have the opportunity to join this promotion. It is recommended that you consider the end of the additional cost privilege early on in order to avoid future financial burdens.
