Bremen Consumer Center: Record number of consultations in 2023
In 2023, the Bremen consumer advice center recorded a record number of consultations, with a total of around 36,000 conversations being held. Two main topics caused the increased need for advice in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The focus was on energy topics, including in particular advice on balcony power plants and heat pumps, as well as high inflation.
The rising prices for energy and food are placing a heavy burden on consumers, according to consumer advice center board member Annabel Oelmann. The rise in prices for heating, food and fuel put many people under financial pressure. Unfortunately, due to expiry of funding, some support projects could not be continued, including the Info Pilots project, which informed people with low incomes about offers of help and was able to provide help in almost 6,000 cases.
The consultations took place in person, by email or by telephone and offered those seeking advice an important point of contact to find out more about the topics mentioned and to receive support. The increasing number of consultations illustrates the population's increased need for information in times of economic changes and increased prices.
