Consumer advice center NRW offers journalists' prize 2024 for outstanding media contributions on consumer issues

According to a report by www.presseportal.de Journalists can apply for the NRW Consumer Center Journalist Award from November 1, 2023. The prize has been awarded since 2022 and honors outstanding media contributions on consumer topics. For 2024, prizes are being offered in five categories with a total of 10,000 euros in prize money. Applications are possible until April 30, 2024. The submitted contributions must have a connection to the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and have been published for the first time between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024.

Consumer journalism covers a wide range of topics such as rising gas prices, higher food costs, climate change adaptation, trouble with banks, questions about real estate financing or the right insurance coverage. With the journalist award, the NRW consumer advice center would like to promote quality journalism in order to enable people to make informed decisions or to defend themselves against questionable providers with well-researched information.

The prize is awarded by an independent jury from journalism, science and consumer protection. This year they include Anne Scheider, head of the Economics Current/Background program group at WDR, Arne Meyer, state office manager dpa NRW, Frank Stach, former chairman of the German Journalists Association NRW, Prof. Dr. Barbara Brandstetter, Professor of Business Journalism at Neu-Ulm University, and Stephanie Heise, Head of Consumer Finance at the NRW Consumer Center.

The award represents recognition for outstanding journalistic work and is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros. It is funded by the Consumer Protection Foundation NRW.
