No cable connection in the additional costs from July 1st: tips from the consumer advice center. Find out here what you need to pay attention to in order to avoid unnecessary costs.

Elimination of the flat-rate cable television connection: consumer tips when concluding a contract
From July 1st there will no longer be any flat-rate cable television connections for tenants in residential buildings. This means that it is now necessary to either conclude your own contract or to switch to alternative options such as Internet television. Benjamin Räther from the Berlin Consumer Center warns against hasty decisions and recommends not allowing yourself to be put under pressure.
The so-called additional cost privilege for cable fees, which previously ran through collective agreements in apartment buildings and was billed via additional costs, will no longer apply from July 1st. This could result in TV reception being switched off and the connection in the apartment being sealed. It is therefore advisable to take care of your own cable contract in good time so that you can continue to receive television via cable.
Benjamin Räther emphasizes that the loss of the flat-rate cable connection should not cause anyone to panic. It is advisable to contact the previous provider and use comparison portals on the Internet to find the best conditions. In addition, you should not allow yourself to be unsettled by home visits from providers at your apartment door, but instead take your time to examine the various options.
When choosing a new cable TV contract, it's important to keep costs in mind. According to Räther, these should not exceed 10 euros. An additional internet contract is usually not necessary. There is a right of withdrawal if the contract is concluded online, but not if the contract is concluded in a store. It is therefore advisable to check the contract thoroughly and, if necessary, take it home with you before signing. Alternatively, TV over the Internet can also be a suitable option.
