Sugar bomb: Too little fruit in strawberry yogurt!
According to a sample from the Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center, a typical 150 gram cup of strawberry yogurt contains an average of only 15.4 grams of fruit, which is roughly equivalent to one strawberry. To compensate for the lack of fruit flavor and color, manufacturers often resort to beetroot flavors and juice. According to consumer experts, strawberry yogurt is often a real sugar bomb, as a 150-gram cup contains an average of 17.3 grams of sugar, which is equivalent to six cubes of sugar.
The consumer advice center tested a total of 24 strawberry yoghurts from supermarkets and discounters and found that many products contain a high sugar content and little actual fruit. As a lower-sugar alternative, consumer experts recommend making your own strawberry yogurt from cut and pureed fruit and natural yogurt. This variation allows consumers to control sugar levels and ensure enough real fruit is used.
