50 years of cycling history: Junior tour rolls through Marchtrenk!
The international cycling community is focusing on the Oberösterreichische Versicherung Junioren Tour, which will take place for the 50th time in 2025. The event, which is seen in the cycling scene as an important stepping stone for talent into the World Tour, will take place from July 25th to 27th, 2025 and will be appreciated by cycling fans as well as former top stars such as Fabian Cancellara and Tom Boonen. This tour attracts 27 teams from 14 nations and 162 young riders from more than 20 countries.
On the first day of the tour, July 25, 2025, the participants start at 5:30 p.m. at the town hall in Marchtrenk. The first stage covers 108.4 kilometers and includes 960 meters of elevation gain, including climbing Mistelbacher Berg three times, with an estimated finish at around 8:00 p.m. On the second day comes the 94.5 kilometer long second stage, which begins in Sarleinsbach and has an altitude difference of 1,800 meters. The start is at 4:00 p.m., with a finish time of around 6:15 p.m. at the market square. The third stage concludes on July 27, 2025, which starts in Bad Wimsbach and is 109.2 kilometers long and has an altitude difference of 1,490 meters. The finish at the elementary school in Straß is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Challenging routes and young talent
In total, the cyclists cover 312.1 kilometers and 4,250 meters in altitude during the entire tour. The race is part of Upper Austria’s “Upper Austria CLASSICS” umbrella brand. State Cycling Association and attracts not only local riders, but also many young, aspiring talents. Among them is Austria's young hopeful Valentin Hofer, who goes into the tour with high expectations.
The event is an important part of the international racing calendar and is classified as UCI category MJ 2.1. Last year, 2024, for example, 144 young professional riders from 10 nations took part in the “No Worries” junior tour, which was held in Straß im Attergau. The event also had important participants from the past such as Tadej Pogacar and Matej Mohoric, who later became world stars.
