Drunk and uninsured: E-scooter driver caught in Meiningen!

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, an e-scooter driver was checked by the police in downtown Meiningen. It turned out that the driver was driving without valid insurance. The check also revealed an alcohol level of over 1.1 per mille. This means that the driver has to expect several charges, as the legal consequences for driving under the influence of alcohol are serious. Rhoenkanal reports.

E-scooters have gained enormous popularity in recent years, especially in urban areas. In particular, the combination of e-scooters and alcohol consumption poses a significant risk to road safety. Alcohol impairs not only physical but also mental abilities, leading to reduced coordination, longer reaction times and poorer judgment. This can increase the risk of accidents, even with small amounts of alcohol. E-scooter scene highlights.

Legal consequences

Driving under the influence of alcohol is considered a traffic violation and can be punished with various penalties. The alcohol limit for e-scooter drivers in most countries is 0.5 per mille, which is comparable to the regulations for drivers. If this limit is exceeded, the following penalties apply:

  • Bis 0,49 Promille: straffrei.
  • Ab 0,3 Promille mit Gefährdung: 3 Punkte, Entzug der Fahrerlaubnis, MPU-Anordnung, Geldstrafe.
  • Ab 0,5 Promille: Bußgeld ab 500 Euro, 2 Punkte, Fahrverbot von mindestens einem Monat.
  • Ab 1,1 Promille: Entzug der Fahrerlaubnis, Bußgeld, 3 Punkte, MPU-Anordnung.
  • Ab 1,6 Promille: Entzug der Fahrerlaubnis, Bußgeld, MPU-Anordnung.

Prevention and education

Alcohol not only increases the risk of traffic accidents for e-scooter drivers, but also for other road users. In the case of alcohol-related accidents, criminal investigations and severe penalties cannot be ruled out. Education campaigns therefore play an important role in raising awareness of the dangers resulting from the combination of alcohol and e-scooters. In addition, measures such as promoting non-alcoholic alternatives and carpooling can help reduce alcohol consumption.

To use e-scooters safely, it is recommended to avoid alcohol before and during the ride, to wear protective clothing such as helmets and to observe traffic rules and cycle paths. E-scooter riders have the same responsibility as drivers when it comes to consuming alcohol and must be aware of the risks involved.
