Bread accident in Horgenzell: Bakery resorts to insurance!
The Bulling family from Horgenzell is known for their love of Dinkelfit bread, which is freshly baked in a local bakery. But an incident on March 3, 2025, Shrove Monday, puts a strain on the relationship between the family and the bakery. Stephan Bulling suffers severe pain in his left eye and temple while eating the bread. Thinking he has bitten on a hard piece of stone or metal, he accidentally swallows the foreign body.
At around 2:30 p.m. Bulling contacted the emergency dental service in Oberzell. A visit to the dentist confirms his fears: his left incisor has splintered down to the root and needs to be crowned. The treatment costs amount to around 1200 euros, of which Bulling has to cover around 800 euros himself.
Bakery reaction
After reporting the incident to the bakery, Bulling asks for the treatment costs to be covered, but not for compensation. The bakery reacts promptly and forwards the case to its insurance company, which initially offers the prospect of an accommodating solution. However, at the end of April, Bulling received the news that the insurance company would not pay because he lacked proof of the foreign body in the bread. In view of this decision, the bakery also refuses to cover the costs.
The bakery's manager emphasizes that complaints are rare and most customers give honest feedback. Despite this statement, Bulling will be forced to take legal action if an agreement is not reached.
Bakery and what it offers
The bakery where Dinkelfit bread is sold offers a large selection of freshly baked baked goods such as bread, rolls, croissants, baguettes, cakes, tarts and pastries. Hearty snacks such as sandwiches and pizzas are also available. The range of drinks also includes coffee, tea, cocoa and fruit juices. Some bakeries also have a pastry department for special cakes and desserts. The website of Bakery nearby makes it possible to find a suitable bakery, with almost 22,000 bakers on offer across Germany, which can be searched for depending on location and postal code.
At a time when there is increasing focus on food quality and food safety, it remains to be seen how this incident between the Bulling family and the bakery will develop.
