BYD presents God’s Eye”: automatic parking with insurance!
The Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD relies on electromobility and advanced assistance systems in its strategy. Features of this strategy became particularly visible today in Shenzhen, where the new assistance system package “God’s Eye” was presented on Monday. This innovative package is offered in three different variants: “God’s Eye C”, “God’s Eye B” and “God’s Eye A”.
The basic system, “God’s Eye C”, is the entry point to the range and includes a comprehensive camera system with a total of 12 cameras, including three front cameras, five panoramic cameras and four cameras for an all-round view. The system is supported by a network of twelve ultrasonic sensors that measure with an accuracy of one centimeter. Also included is a computing unit called DiPilot, which achieves a maximum computing power of 100 TOPS. These technologies enable 360-degree surveillance and predictive viewing distances of up to 300 meters.
Autonomous parking insurance
In addition to the assistance package, BYD offers special insurance for autonomous parking. This insurance is included in the package and covers not only the repair costs of your own vehicle, but also damage to third-party property and possible compensation for injuries. Interestingly, this insurance remains valid even if a court finds the manufacturer guilty. However, it is currently only available in China. In the event of an insured event, drivers can contact BYD service, providing additional security.
The other variants of the system, “God’s Eye B” and “God’s Eye A”, are characterized by improved sensor technology. “God’s Eye B” integrates lidar technology and is used in BYD’s subsidiary brands Denza and Fang Cheng Bao, as well as some of BYD’s flagship vehicles. It comes with a computing power of 300 TOPS, while the highest variant, “God’s Eye A”, is installed in the Yangwang brand models and works with a computing power of 600 TOPS through the DiPilot 600 system. These models also use data from three lidar systems.
Functions and future prospects
The “God’s Eye” system offers a variety of features, including real-time detection of lane departures, traffic signs and obstacles. It can react independently, for example by counter-steering, speed management or emergency braking. A particularly impressive feature is the ability to park independently.
By integrating AI-supported cloud connectivity and 5G technology, BYD plans to set new standards in the field of autonomous driving. Currently, over a million vehicles are already using the “God’s Eye ADAS” version, which indicates the great success of this technology among users. Given the rapid developments in the automotive industry, self-parking and human-controlled driving could soon be a thing of the past.
However, the question of the exact timing of the market launch of vehicles with the new “God’s Eye” system remains unclear for the time being, while expectations for further developments of this innovative package are high.
