Generali surprises with a strong jump in profits in the first quarter of 2025!
Italian insurance group Generali reports impressive profit growth for the first quarter of 2025. Operating profit grew from 1.898 billion euros to 2.067 billion euros, an impressive increase of 8.9%. This positive result is primarily driven by all business segments, with the accident insurance business particularly standing out with growth of 18.7%. Finews reported that gross premiums rose slightly to 26.5 billion euros, an increase of 0.2%.
Although the life insurance business recorded a decline in premium income, net cash inflows in this sector rose significantly to 3.045 billion euros, particularly through protection and health insurance. This shows that Generali is successfully asserting itself in this important market segment.
Improved efficiency
Another positive aspect is the improvement in the combined ratio, which fell from 91.0% to 89.7%. This progress is attributed to efficiency gains in claims settlement and administration. Generali highlights that the adjusted net profit is 1.204 billion euros, an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous year. Adjusted earnings per share rose to 0.79 euros.
The corporate strategy “Lifetime Partner 27” has continued to prove promising. It aims for annual profit growth of 8 to 10%, cash flow of over 11 billion euros and dividend growth of more than 10% by 2027. Generali also announced a share buyback program worth 500 million euros for 2025, which underlines the confidence in the company's future development.
Looking back on the past year
The solid first quarter results come after record operating profit and adjusted net income in 2024, Generali points out. Gross premiums rose to 95.190 billion euros in 2024, an increase of 14.9% compared to the previous year. Particularly noteworthy is the growth in the life insurance business, which increased by 19.2% to 61.434 billion euros.
