Hail damage in Germany: 2,000 hectares already affected

The season for hail damage in Germany started a month earlier this year than last year. In the first half of April, 2,000 hectares were reported to VEREINIGTEN HAGEL as being damaged. In the first week of April, strong hailstones in Mestlin caused entire shoots of rapeseed plants to break off. The storms that followed the high temperatures caused significant damage to arable crops, soft fruit, pome fruit, winter spinach and spring onions, especially in places such as the German-Dutch border, on the Lower Rhine, between Augsburg and Schrobenhausen and in some places throughout Germany.

It is important to note that advance coverage for agricultural crops ends on May 31st. It is therefore advisable to declare the current cultivation before this date in order not to be left unprotected in the event of damage. Timely reporting can be crucial to protecting yourself from the impact of potential harm. Farmers and fruit growers should therefore take early measures to secure their harvests and plants as best as possible, especially in times of increased risk.
