Cologne moments of happiness: HA Schult unveils the longest work of art on the Rhine
A pair of seagulls have settled on the banks of the Rhine in Cologne and are raising their young there. A construction crane pauses nearby due to the special circumstances. Under this special setting, the artist HA Schult unveiled the longest work of art in the city. This impressive installation consists of a 90 meter long sequence of images with 25 motifs that represent moments of happiness in Cologne's urban society. The work of art will be present on the facade of the DEVK headquarters, which is currently being renovated.
The artwork is more than just a collection of images; it reflects the diverse aspects of happiness. A particularly striking motif is shown by Dr. Dirk Gilberg, the director of the Cologne Labor Court, with the large poster “Happiness” on the DEVK facade. HA Schult calls on his website www.glueck-koeln.de to share your own moments of happiness. The installation is intended to be a collective soul image of Cologne's citizens.
Inauguration of the art event
Important personalities took part in the inauguration of the art installation, including NRW state parliament president André Kuper and DEVK board member Annette Hetzenegger. At the event, Kuper emphasized the central role of health in personal happiness. Hetzenegger, on the other hand, described the art campaign as enriching and positive for the construction site. This will be continued in the near future to complement the design on Tiergartenstrasse with submissions from the neighborhood.
In addition to the series of images, a monumental installation by the same artist will be unveiled at Cologne's Zoobrücke. This includes the word “happiness” in impressive dimensions of ten meters high and 18 meters wide, which is intended to remain visible as a “mental sculpture” for at least three years. The letters in this installation will be visible to passers-by during the day and will be complemented at night by a glowing globe that has been installed for 25 years.
Invitation to creativity
The artist campaign also encourages the people of Cologne to share their personal moments of happiness through the website www.glueck-koeln.de and share on social networks. In particular, children are invited to paint their moments of happiness in the Rheinauhafen on World Children's Day, which is celebrated on September 21st. The city of Cologne has already given the building inspectorate approval for the artificial installation.
Due to the seagulls, the construction crane will be put back into operation as soon as the young have fledged. The ongoing art campaign on the Riehler Strasse construction fence and the planned design of the side on Tiergartenstrasse show the commitment to continue to actively involve Cologne's urban society and to make the important topic of happiness visible in various ways.
