Leroy Sané moves to Galatasaray: Farewell party and Club World Cup in focus!

Leroy Sané, the talented FC Bayern Munich winger, has announced his impending decision to leave the club and join Galatasaray Istanbul on July 1, 2025. However, Sané will first take part in the FIFA Club World Cup, which will now be held in the new format for the first time. His short-term appearance in the Bayern jersey is legitimized by a clear agreement with the club, as sports director Max Eberl confirmed.

The player is only eligible to play in the group stage and possibly a round of 16 at the Club World Cup. Sané will play his last game for Bayern against Auckland City on Sunday before heading to his new club in Istanbul. The 27-year-old also plans to speak to new coach Vincent Kompany about his role in the upcoming competitions to clarify whether he will come into the game as a regular player or as a substitute.

Enthusiastic reception in Istanbul

After landing in Istanbul on Thursday night, he will soon leave the city again to play for FC Bayern in the Club World Cup. The contract with Galatasaray, which runs for three seasons, provides for a guaranteed net salary of nine million euros per season, plus a loyalty bonus of three million euros. Possible bonuses could even increase his salary to up to 15 million euros, depending on Champions League qualification.

Future perspectives

Another interesting aspect of his upcoming participation in the Club World Cup is the uncertainty as to whether Sané's performance can qualify for the 2026 World Cup. While Bayern is already speculating about possible successors for Sané, including talents such as Nico Williams, Rafael Leao, Christopher Nkunku and Bradley Barcola, the player is currently fully concentrating on the upcoming tasks with his current team.

Overall, Leroy Sané will have an interesting summer in which he will tackle both his last chance to shine in the Bayern jersey and his new challenge in Istanbul. During the Club World Cup he will have the opportunity to prove himself in international competitions, while at the same time enjoying the anticipation of his new role at Galatasaray.
