Music for the car: Allianz and Spotify ensure safe journeys!
With its new “Seat Belters” campaign, Allianz is relying on the innovative use of music to increase road safety. In addition to the increasing number of road users, especially among young drivers, the insurance company has developed an in-app experience in Spotify. This is intended to reassure drivers and thus contribute to safer driving behavior.
Current scientific studies show that music has a significant influence on driving behavior. According to Allianz, playing songs over 120 beats per minute (BPM) increases the risk of riskier driving maneuvers. In contrast, slow music in the 60 to 80 BPM range promotes concentration and ensures calm driving. This represents a central starting point for the campaign, which not only focuses on education but also offers practical support.
Safety initiative through music
The Seat Belters app, powered by Spotify's streaming intelligence, creates a playlist tailored to users' individual music tastes. Choosing calming music should help relax your pulse and improve your reactions in traffic. An Allianz representative emphasizes that this innovative solution combines security with personal musical taste, without pointing fingers.
The campaign is specifically aimed at Generation Z, who are open to new approaches to improving driving behavior. Survey results show that around 50% of this age group believe that music has an influence on their driving behavior. “Seat Belters” not only offers an individual playlist, but also audio offerings for various driving situations, be it on the way to school, in city traffic or long road trips.
The Allianz emphasizes that the right musical sounds can have a positive influence on driving behavior. It should be noted that despite the appropriate BPM, some songs could trigger bouts of aggression, which makes an individual and balanced music selection even more important.
With the launch of “Seat Belters” on May 12, 2025 in Vienna, the alliance is showing how modern technology and scientific knowledge can be brought together to increase road safety. A conscious use of music while driving could not only lead to a more relaxed atmosphere, but also to greater safety on the roads.
