Mysterious accident in the forest: driver disappeared – investigations underway!
In a dramatic traffic accident between Bösingen and Dunningen, a Mercedes was badly damaged and the driver was initially unable to be found. The incident occurred on August 27, 2025 and led to an extensive search by emergency responders. When the first emergency services arrived, the vehicle was on site, but there was no trace of the driver. NRWZ reported that the Mercedes automatically triggered an emergency call (e-call), which alerted the police and emergency services.
The intensive search for the driver, who comes from the Rottweil district, was initiated immediately. A total of more than 50 emergency services were involved in the search efforts, including the fire department and rescue service. They combed the surrounding forest area, supported by drones and a police helicopter. Despite the first extensive search operation, the driver remained untraceable until the emergency services were dispatched. However, after about an hour and a half, the police were successful and were able to locate the driver. However, he did not provide any information about what happened to the accident.
Accident escape in the room
The allegation of a hit-and-run is now pending while the police investigation is already underway. An update at 4:25 p.m. reported that the driver had contacted his insurance company and said he was OK. A few hours later, at 5:25 p.m., the search was finally called off because evidence suggested that the driver was not in a helpless situation. However, the driver could no longer be reached by phone at this point, raising speculation that he may have been picked up by a third party.
Meanwhile, the fire brigade took care of the crashed Mercedes, which came to a stop against a tree. Severe damage to the vehicle was discovered, which is why the towing service was requested to remove the car. Some items of clothing, including a leather jacket and a stuffed toy, were also found near the scene of the accident. It remains unclear whether these items are related to the accident.
Technical background of the emergency call
Fast and competent help in emergencies is guaranteed by the emergency technical process, in particular the e-call. The Federal Network Agency emphasizes that those seeking help can contact the local emergency hotline free of charge. These emergency calls are made via nationwide emergency numbers. Federal Network Agency indicates that when an emergency call is made, the caller's phone number will be displayed, even if caller ID suppression is activated. Thanks to this automatic location data, quick and effective assistance can be organized.
The regulations surrounding emergency call systems are anchored in the Telecommunications Act (TKG), which, among other things, deals with the technical details of establishing emergency call connections and their reliability. The Federal Network Agency also oversees the allocation of local networks to emergency call connections in order to ensure comprehensive and safe accessibility in the event of an emergency.
