New analysis: majority of BU tariffs receive top marks

In the most recent update of their “M&M Rating Occupational Disability”, the analysts at Morgen & Morgen evaluated a total of 612 occupational disability tariffs from 60 providers. Of these, more than four fifths of the tariffs received the maximum rating of five stars from 52 product providers, which is classified as “excellent”. This means that the vast majority of the tariffs examined are of very high quality.

Interestingly, significantly less new business was recorded compared to the previous year. The analysts noted that fewer new contracts were signed in 2022 than in the previous year. Although specific figures for the BU insurance in the performance phase, the BU pensions paid out and the contribution income were not given, it is known that the volume for the contracts in the performance phase was estimated at 2.4 billion euros last year.

The rating is based on four sub-ratings, taking into account the conditions, contribution stability, application questions and BU competence. The conditions contribute the most to the overall rating at 40 percent. Insurance companies are rated based on stars, with five stars representing an “excellent” rating.

The list of providers with at least a five-star rating includes a total of 52 product providers, including well-known names such as Allianz, Axa, Barmenia, Debeka, Ergo, Gothaer, Zurich and many more. It should be noted that only 13 of the 612 test candidates did not receive the highest grade on BU application questions.

Overall, occupational disability insurance is evaluated by various analysis houses, including Franke and Bornberg, the Institute for Vorsorge und Finanzplanung GmbH, the Infinma Institute for Financial Market Analysis GmbH and Ascore Das Scoring GmbH. In addition, intermediaries, consumers and market researchers have also conducted research on various aspects of BU insurance.
