A new wind at R+V: Nils Reich takes over as composite board member
R+V Versicherung has appointed Nils Reich as the new composite board member, who will take up his new position on September 15, 2025. Reich succeeds Klaus Endres, who took over the Operations and IT department in April. Until Reich takes office, Endres will temporarily head the composite department. In his new role, Reich is responsible for around eight billion euros in premium income, which accounts for almost half of R+V's primary insurance business in Germany. R+V Supervisory Board Chairman Cornelius Riese highlights Reich's extensive expertise in the composite sector, while Norbert Rollinger, CEO of R+V, is looking forward to working with Reich.
Reich brings extensive experience from the insurance industry. Before moving to R+V, he was a composite board member at Axa Group AG from 2018 to 2023, after also working there as Global Head of P&C Retail. Through these positions he also acquired in-depth knowledge of the property and casualty business. He began his career at Boston Consulting Group in 2008 before moving to Axa in 2015. From 2026, broker sales will also be part of Reich's department, which will further expand the range of tasks.
Overview of the composite business
R+V's composite business has experienced positive development, with growth of 6.5 billion euros to an expected almost 8 billion euros in 2025. Endres is handing over the department in a solid condition, as numerous processes have been optimized, which will benefit customers in the event of a claim.
Current developments in the insurance industry
In addition to personnel reorganization, there are other relevant topics in the industry. A current study by TK, IFBG and Haufe shows that 65% of the over 1,500 employers surveyed do not consider a reduction in continued payment of wages in the event of illness to be helpful. Only 23% of those surveyed see a benefit in this measure. TK boss Dr. Jens Baas warns of possible negative consequences of cuts, as these could lead to longer absences due to illness, and emphasizes the importance of health-promoting structures.
In addition, the financial advisory group Plansecur expresses itself positively about the federal government's planned early start and active pensions. However, managing director Heiko Hauser emphasizes that clear communication is necessary and points to still open questions about implementation. The group also calls for financial education to be included in school lessons to promote sustainable retirement planning.
Innovative approaches and partnerships
ERGO Reiseversicherung is also bringing innovative solutions to the market by now offering a digital emergency card for its travel health insurance customers. This card can be used on devices stored in the Wallet app and provides quick access to important contact information and medical services.
ARAG is causing a stir in the sports world by extending its sponsorship of Borussia Düsseldorf until 2028. Table tennis star Timo Boll will act as an “ambassador of German table tennis”, which also includes projects to promote young talent.
HanseMerkur Grund Vermögens AG recently took over the new building of the “Medical Science Center” in Hamburg-Langenhorn, which includes around 24,000 m² of usable space. The complex is fully rented, including to the Medical Laboratory North (Sonic Healthcare) and the Federal Real Estate Agency. A daycare center for 150 children is also part of the mixed-use concept, which meets the KfW 55 standard and is aiming for DGNB Gold certification.
