Police expose Poles: Driving an Audi without a driver's license or insurance!
The police in Baden have arrested a 29-year-old Polish driver who was driving an unregistered vehicle without a valid driver's license and without insurance. This happened as part of a traffic surveillance at the Gstühl intersection, where several speed cameras recorded both speed and red light violations.
The Pole had already been noticed as a speeder and was caught by the Gstühl speed camera in his vehicle, an Audi A5. In this case he was traveling at 67 km/h, exceeding the maximum permitted speed by 12 km/h. What is particularly serious is that the Audi did not have valid license plates that were advertised in the wanted register.
Investigations and legal consequences
The investigation revealed that the Pole had used the vehicle of another driver, a woman with an Opel Astra, while his license plate belonged to a Peugeot that had already been out of circulation since December 2023. This Peugeot also had no liability insurance, and the license plates were also mounted on the Audi A5, which was found in an underground car park.
Due to these circumstances, the Baden public prosecutor issued a criminal order against the 29-year-old. It charged several violations, including misuse of ID cards and plates, as well as driving without a vehicle registration document and without liability insurance. The Pole was sentenced to a conditional fine of 100 daily rates of 30 francs each, making a total of 3,000 francs. He also has to pay a fine of 1,050 francs and additional fees of 1,486 francs, bringing the total to 2,535 francs.
Legal background to driving without a license
Driving without a license is a serious offense not only in Switzerland but also internationally. According to experts, this can be punishable by a fine or even a prison sentence of up to 12 months, depending on the seriousness of the offense. For example, never having had a driving license is punished more severely, while a driving ban is usually punished with up to 180 daily fines or up to 6 months in prison.
Repeat offenders face more drastic penalties, while vehicle owners who knowingly allow their vehicles to unauthorized drivers can also be held responsible. The penalty can increase significantly, particularly in the case of accidents or more serious violations. When it comes to insurance coverage, it should be noted that insurance companies can often refuse benefits in the event of an accident if the driver was driving without a valid driver's license.
The serious legal consequences illustrate the urgency of proper driving licenses and liability insurance. Driving without a license therefore requires a thorough legal examination by traffic law specialists.
