Rescue for the Rhine River Rhinos: 302,000 euros from donations!

The future of the Rhine River Rhinos is secured: On August 15, 2025, the team announced that they had raised a total of around 302,000 euros through an impressive fundraising campaign. This financial rescue was urgently needed as the club had gotten into difficulties due to a sponsor withdrawal and high tax demands. The main sponsors R+V Versicherung and Wiesbadener Volksbank supported the team in this campaign and enabled a remarkable mobilization of resources.

The largest share of the donations, specifically 150,000 euros, came from R+V Versicherung, which was particularly committed and also doubled the donations collected up to this amount. In addition, 75,000 euros were raised via the Wiesbadener Volksbank crowdfunding platform “Many create more”. This initiative received a great response and around 800 donors participated, demonstrating community commitment. Volksbank rounded up the crowdfunding amount to 75,000 euros, which significantly increased the total funds.

Setting off for new shores

Jens Hasselbächer from R+V Versicherung emphasized the importance of helping people to help themselves and emphasized the role of the fundraising campaign, which was initiated at the end of June. This remarkable effort has opened up new perspectives for the coming season. Managing director Mirko Korder expressed optimism about the team's future planning, which will focus not only on sporting performance, but also on strengthening the club's structures and continuing important social projects, especially in the school sector.

The Rhine, on whose banks the Rhine River Rhinos call home, has a long and important history. With a total length of 1,232 kilometers and numerous tributaries such as the Aare and the Neckar, the river is not only geographically but also economically important. Firmly anchored in German national history, the Rhine was an important trade route at various times and formed the border between Gaul and Germania during Roman times. It also played a central role in the 19th century, and last but not least, it was strategically important during the world wars.

A home close to nature

The different sections of the Rhine, from the picturesque wine-growing regions of the Middle Rhine to the heavily industrialized Lower Rhine, show the diversity of the river. The Middle Rhine is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its castles. The High Rhine flows over the impressive Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen and leads through impressive landscapes that captivate both tourists and locals.

The secured financing will enable the Rhine River Rhinos to continue their social and sporting projects. The community in Wiesbaden is strong and solidarity, ready to continue to support the team in the future and thus preserve the tradition on the Rhine.
