SC Paderborn separates from managing director Wahler – realignment planned!

SC Paderborn 07 has separated from its commercial director Alexander Wahler with immediate effect. This decision was made unanimously in the relevant committees of the association. President Thomas Sagel cited different ideas about the way the club works and its future direction as the reason for the separation. Wahler had been in office since December 1, 2024 and succeeded Ralf Huschen.

In his position, Wahler was responsible for all commercial areas of the club, including finance, marketing and sales. At the same time, SC Paderborn announced a structural realignment of the management, with information about personnel changes and a new business distribution plan to follow as soon as decisions have been made. Due to the current situation, Wahler's successor is still unclear, and the club is planning what to do next.

Background to the separation

Before he worked in Paderborn, Wahler had already gained experience at TSG Hoffenheim and 1. FC Magdeburg. His time at Magdeburg also ended prematurely, which may indicate similar differences to the current situation at SC Paderborn. This repeated problem raises questions about the basis of trust and Wahler’s leadership style.

The decision to fire Wahler came as a surprise to many observers on Thursday. President Sagel emphasized again that the different ideas regarding the future direction of the association were the main reason for the separation. SC Paderborn is therefore faced with a significant challenge in designing the new structure and future leadership in order to continue to pursue the club's goals.
