Talanx is planning a move: 600 jobs from Cologne to Hilden are threatened!
HDI Leben, a subsidiary of the Talanx Group, is facing a possible decision to relocate its legal headquarters from Cologne to Hilden. There is currently no final decision, but the plan includes a move that could affect around 600 jobs by 2026. This corresponds to around 30% of the total of around 2,000 employees in Cologne.
A key reason for the consideration is the lower trade tax in Hilden, which is set at a rate of 400, while the rate in Cologne is 475. However, Hilden is not compared with tax havens like Monheim or Leverkusen, where the tax rate is only 250. The possible relocation could lead to financial losses for the Cologne treasury, as the trade tax represents significant income for the city.
Details about moving planning
Talanx already has a renovated and partially empty office complex in Hilden. In contrast, the current location in Cologne is in former exhibition halls, where high rents have to be paid. The Talanx spokesman reiterated that all employees are needed, but it is expected that not all employees will make the move to Hilden.
The two locations are only about 30 kilometers apart, which means a travel time of around 40 minutes. In addition, employees are given the opportunity to work remotely for up to 60% of their working hours as part of a hybrid working model. A one-off bonus is offered for the move, which is staggered according to the distance to the new workplace.
The future of the company
The planned move is scheduled to take place in the middle of next year. Even after the relocation, the location in Cologne will remain; there will be no closure. In Hilden, the workforce is expected to grow to a total of 1,400 employees. Talanx had already taken over the Cologne insurer Gerling in 2006, although the life insurance company remained based in Cologne.
