Ukrainian e-scooter drivers stopped without insurance and driving license

On Saturday morning, Waldsassen police officers stopped two e-scooter drivers who were traveling without insurance and without a driver's license. The two Ukrainians, who live in the Czech Republic, rode e-scooters that were not registered in Germany on the cycle path from Eger towards Waldsassen. These motorized two-wheelers were similar to an e-scooter, but had a seat and front and rear brakes, with a top speed of up to 45 km/h.

Due to language barriers, the two were taken to the Waldsassen police in their vehicles. There they were interviewed in the presence of an interpreter. It turned out that a driving license is required to drive such vehicles in Germany. One of the Ukrainians was able to show a Ukrainian driver's license, while the other was unable to provide such proof. After a check, it was discovered that the driver's license presented was a fake. The Ukrainian admitted that he had purchased it for 400 euros.

After naming an authorized person for service, the two men were released after processing. The e-scooters initially remained with PI Waldsassen for further inspections on instructions from the public prosecutor's office. Ukrainians now expect reports under the Compulsory Insurance Law, the Criminal Code and the Road Traffic Law. The police emphasized the importance of legal regulations and safety measures in road traffic to prevent accidents and unauthorized actions.
