Accident insurance: Provincial strongest growth over six years

In the last six years, 36 of the 50 largest accident insurers have increased their gross written premiums, with Provinzial recording the strongest increase of 132 percent. Generali increased by almost two thirds, while Huk-Coburg-Allgemeine and VHV each increased by around half. This data comes from the “Industry Monitor 2017-2022: Accident Insurance” from V.E.R.S. Leipzig.

The total premium volume in private accident insurance has only increased slightly in recent years. Between 2017 and 2022, the industry's premium volume rose by 2.3 percent. In 2022, gross premiums written amounted to almost 6.33 billion euros, which corresponded to a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to the previous year.

During the same period, 36 insurers recorded growth in their premium income. Provinzial Versicherung AG recorded the largest increase, followed by Generali Deutschland Versicherung AG, Huk-Coburg-Allgemeine Versicherung AG and VHV Allgemeine Versicherung AG. The study “Industry Monitor 2017-2022: Accident Insurance” by V.E.R.S. Leipzig shows that these companies recorded significant growth.

Particularly worth mentioning are the internal restructuring at Generali and Provinzial, which contributed to the strong growth rates. Hansemerkur, VHV and Huk-Coburg-Allgemeine have also continuously increased their sales, with each company showing individual growth curves. The “Industry Monitor 2017-2022: Accident Insurance” provides further insights into developments in the insurance sector.
