Extreme insurance fraud: Student has his legs amputated

In Taiwan, a student attempted to obtain a fraudulent $1.3 million insurance settlement by having his legs amputated. However, this audacious plan was exposed by doctors and authorities when they noticed discrepancies in the student's legs. It became suspicious when the student's injuries were symmetrical and there were no traces of shoes or socks.

The investigation revealed that the student had taken out several expensive insurance policies shortly before the incident, which brought the authorities to the scene. During searches, police found Styrofoam boxes for dry ice, insurance documents and cell phones. It turned out that the student soaked his feet in dry ice to cause frostbite so severe that a double amputation was inevitable.

The student claimed that he was coerced by a fellow student and signed a legal declaration requiring him to pay large amounts. Both the student and his fellow student were arrested and charged with fraud and aiding and abetting serious bodily harm. The student's conspicuous behavior shows how far some people will go for financial gain.

In addition to this shocking incident, there is also the example of a 28-year-old woman who, due to long-standing pain, decided to have her foot amputated. This extreme measure highlights the drastic impact of long-term pain on people's quality of life and decisions. The cases of the student and the woman illustrate the different motivations that can lead to amputation, whether fraudulent or medically necessary.
