Insurance fraud: Wildeshauser presents theft of e-bikes
A 25-year-old man from Wildeshausen is on trial for multiple insurance fraud cases. The defendant is said to have faked the theft of several high-quality e-bikes in order to receive money from insurance companies. Two suspected accomplices, a 54-year-old from Delmenhorst and a 56-year-old from Wildeshausen, are also charged. A police officer who was called as a witness did not appear in court and now has to pay a fine.
The accused reported several bicycle thefts for which he had previously taken out household contents insurance with bicycle protection of up to 5,000 euros. Among other things, he reported the theft of a cross e-bike worth 4,950 euros and another e-bike worth 1,800 euros. In one case, the insurance company actually paid him 1,500 euros. However, when another alleged theft of an e-bike worth 2,600 euros was reported, the insurance company refused to pay because there were discrepancies with the purchase receipt.
The public prosecutor's office is demanding the confiscation of the 1,500 euros received. The defendants did not provide any information about the allegation of insurance fraud. The trial will continue in September as no appointments were previously available.
