Supply of high-quality post-consumer recyclates: Circular contracting protects companies in the long term.
According to a report from www.euwid-recycling.de, Eko- Punkt, Remondis' dual system, offers packaging distributors the opportunity to insure themselves against a shortage of high-quality post-consumer recyclates. With “circular contracting”, companies could now contractually secure the supply of high-quality post-consumer recyclates. The contract model combines the legally required licensing requirement with the contractually secured delivery of high-quality post-consumer recyclates, even in the long term. In return for their packaging licensed from Eko- Punkt, customers receive a corresponding quantity equivalent of high-quality recycled materials to replace the primary raw materials previously used, explains Stefan Munz, who is head of innovation and sustainability at the system operator. Supply of high-quality post-consumer recyclates: Circular contracting protects companies in the long term.
According to a report by www.euwid-recycling.de, Eko- Punkt, the dual system from Remondis, offers packaging distributors the opportunity to insure themselves against a shortage of high-quality post-consumer recyclates.
According to an analysis by the market research company Conversio Market & Strategy for the IK Plastic Packaging Industry Association, around 1.6 million tons of post-consumer recycled materials could have been used to produce plastic packaging in 2021, which corresponds to an average recycled content of 10.6 percent per packaging. By 2030, this amount would have to increase to over 6.0 million tonnes in order to achieve the targets set in the draft European Packaging Regulation (PPWR) of up to 35 percent, depending on the type of packaging.
This development is expected to have a significant impact on the recyclate market. Companies that rely on high-quality post-consumer recyclates could face an even greater shortage in the coming years. This could lead to a worsening of the situation on the market, particularly in the area of post-consumer recyclates. Some companies are already recognizing the advantages of Eko- Punkt's offering and are actively using circular contracting to secure their long-term supply of high-quality recycled materials.
It is foreseeable that the demand for high-quality post-consumer recyclates will increase in the coming years, while supply remains tight. Companies that focus on sustainable solutions early on could have a strategic advantage on the market in the future. With circular contracting, Eko- Punkt offers a long-term supply of high-quality post-consumer recyclates while at the same time meeting the legal requirements for licensing packaging.
