Africa as a partner: German business is pushing for new opportunities!
In the coalition agreement, the African Association of German Business (AV) called for the use of development policy funds to promote private sector involvement in Africa. This is happening against the background that Africa is increasingly being anchored as a strategic partner in German foreign and economic policy. The AV sees the planned measures by the coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD as positive approaches to deepening cooperation with the continent.
The key points highlighted by the AV include the expansion of economic cooperation and the development of a comprehensive Africa strategy. Christoph Kannengiesser, general manager of the AV, emphasizes the geopolitical importance of Africa. A rapid implementation of these measures is essential to unlock the continent's potential for German companies.
Priority for German companies
The coalition agreement states that German companies should be given higher priority in state-financed projects. The AV also calls for an improvement in financing conditions for exports and investments, including through development funds. Around 90% of the companies organized in the AV see the closer integration of foreign trade and development cooperation as crucial for their commitment in Africa.
A particularly important goal is to support the African Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the ratification of economic partnership agreements with African states. These measures are seen as steps in the right direction to further intensify economic relations.
Reduction in bureaucracy and shortage of skilled workers
The simplification of administrative processes becomes increasingly important in this context. A low-bureaucratic implementation of the European supply chain law is viewed by entrepreneurs as positive for their business activities. Nevertheless, the AV sees a need for improvement in attracting skilled workers from Africa and further developing existing financing instruments in order to better meet the challenges.
Although the coalition agreement is seen as promising, its practical implementation is seen as crucial. The AV therefore plans to actively, critically and constructively accompany this implementation process to ensure that the advantages described are actually realized.
In summary, it can be said that the realignment of economic cooperation with Africa is seen as necessary in order to exploit the diverse potential of the continent.
