Labor market in Vienna: Unemployment numbers continue to rise

The unemployment rate in Austria reached 6.8 percent in April, an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year. A total of 367,847 people were unemployed or took part in training courses offered by the Employment Service (AMS), which represents an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the same month last year. The industrial and construction sectors were particularly hard hit by this development, which illustrates the ongoing strain on the labor market. This increase in the number of unemployed has continued since April 2023 and represents a challenge for labor market policy. Despite efforts to improve the employment situation, unemployment in Austria remains at an elevated level.
