East labor market: Thousands of employees are leaving Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
An evaluation of the federal states by the Federal Employment Agency (BA) shows that Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania lose thousands of employees every year due to demographic change and the lack of skilled and skilled workers. Compared to the same period last year, it can be seen that these three eastern German states are recording a decline in German employees, which cannot be compensated for by immigration from Europe and third countries.
Specifically, Saxony-Anhalt lost 5,100 employees, while Thuringia recorded a decline of 3,800 employees and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania lost 3,300 employees. In contrast, all other federal states recorded an increase in the number of employees subject to social security contributions.
Vanessa Ahuja, head of the Federal Employment Agency, emphasizes the importance of immigrant workers for maintaining employment levels. She emphasizes that social openness towards workers from other regions is crucial in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers.
