Auto industry: Stabilization despite gloomy prospects at VW!
A small glimmer of hope on the horizon of the German auto industry? After a dramatic crash in the summer months, there is an extremely cautious ray of hope in September! According to the Ifo Institute, the car manufacturers' mood barometer recovered by 1.3 points - but with a value of minus 23, the situation remains bleak!
“The auto industry was able to stop the nosedive of the previous month,” emphasizes Ifo expert Anita Wölfl, and adds warningly: “However, it would be too early to give the all-clear.” Because the sector is still deep in the crisis, VW in particular is suffering greatly from falling sales figures, especially for electric cars. And then there are the enormous costs for the development of electric cars - a double burden for the manufacturers!
Expectations rise minimally
The current improvement in business sentiment is obvious! Fewer and fewer companies expect their situation to deteriorate further. The sub-indicator that measures expectations for the coming months has improved from a still catastrophic level of minus 39.6 to minus 32.4 points!
But the description of the current situation continues to become bleaker. The corresponding sub-indicator fell by 7.5 points to minus 13 - a clear warning that the challenges are far from being overcome!
VW at the center of the crisis
The automotive industry is not only subject to a zigzag course, but is also fighting for its future! The falling sales of electric cars and the high investment costs for innovative technologies are making things difficult for companies. Confidence in a speedy recovery is fragile and may be hanging by a thread!
