Construction industry: Incoming orders increase by 1.8% in February
In February 2024, the construction industry recorded an increase in incoming orders of 1.8% compared to the previous month. This increase was due to an increase in orders received in building construction by 0.5% and in civil engineering by 2.9%. Compared to the same month of February 2023, real incoming orders rose by 0.9% after calendar adjustment. While incoming orders fell in building construction, civil engineering recorded an increase. Nominal order intake was 4.0% above the previous year's level.
In the first two months of 2024, real new orders in the construction industry exceeded the level of the same period last year by 1.1%, while nominal new orders increased by 4.1%. Real sales in the construction industry rose by 2.0% in February 2024 compared to the same month last year, while nominal sales increased by 2.6% to 6.8 billion euros. On the other hand, sales in the first two months of 2024 fell by 1.3% in real terms and by 0.1% in nominal terms compared to the same period last year.
The number of employees in the construction industry fell by 0.4% in February 2024 compared to the same month last year. These figures show a positive development in orders received and sales in the construction industry, indicating continued strong construction demand and activity in the industry.
