Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER), the third largest airport in Germany, has made significant progress towards energy efficiency and modern infrastructure. A comprehensive conversion to LED technology is currently being carried out on the airport tarmac. This measure is intended to significantly reduce energy consumption and is part of a comprehensive plan to optimize airport operations. The conversion is carried out in close coordination with the responsible authorities and takes all safety standards into account. Modern LED walls at the airport
In addition to the conversion of the lighting technology, another measure to modernize the airport was implemented last year. In 2023, four large LED walls were installed above the marketplace, displaying both advertising and important information for passengers. This development was carried out by integrator Ben Hur and demonstrates the airport's intention to modernize technologically while significantly improving the passenger experience. The walls consist of 576 LED cabinets and offer a total of 120 square meters of advertising space. Their resolution is 2,880 x 1,620 pixels and they achieve a brightness of 1,000 candelas per square meter.
The planning of the LED walls began in 2018, but had to be changed several times due to the Covid-19 crisis. The solid metal substructure was realized in 2020, followed by revised planning in 2021. The strict fire regulations under which the installation was carried out included requirements such as fire protection class A1 for the scaffolding and certification of the protective fabric. The new LED walls are not only a technical innovation, but also a measure that meets the airport's high security standards.
