Berlin agrees: Departments must save for a balanced state budget

After long negotiations, the leading politicians of the CDU and SPD in Berlin have agreed on an austerity plan to compensate for the deficit of 1.8 billion euros in the state budget. According to the agreement, all Senate departments must cut two percent of their spending in 2024. By July 1st, the individual departments must specify where they will make the savings. This step should result in a total of around 600 million euros being saved. The entire budget amounts to around 40 billion euros. It is now up to the individual departments to adjust their spending accordingly in order to ensure Berlin's financial stability.
