Bietigheim gets new Amazon logistics center with 2,000 jobs!

Amazon is planning to build a new logistics center in Bietigheim, Baden-Württemberg. The Bietigheim local council approved the project on Tuesday evening, which is seen as a great opportunity for the region. Mayor Constantin Braun emphasizes the positive effects on the community, in particular the creation of new jobs and training positions as well as the strengthening of the location as an economic center. The logistics center is expected to offer around 2,000 new jobs in the areas of logistics, technology and management.

The planned warehouse will cover an area of 180,000 square meters and is located in the Bietigheim industrial area, between the A5 and the B3. Amazon plans to store small and medium-sized goods and create space for around 20 million items. The site has an interesting history: it was used for gravel and sand mining in the 1970s and is partly forested, but is also used as an interim storage facility for gravel and sand.

Early planning phase

The planning phase of the logistics center is currently still very early, as building applications have not yet been submitted. It remains unclear when the logistics center will finally be completed. This uncertainty is compounded by the previous news that Amazon announced in January that it would close a temporary distribution center in Zweibrücken, Rhineland-Palatinate.

Bietigheim, which is about 17 kilometers from Karlsruhe and had around 6,500 residents at the end of 2023, is part of a larger network of Amazon locations in Germany. In total, Amazon operates around 100 locations in Germany, including 23 logistics centers. There are ten locations in Baden-Württemberg with a total of around 3,000 employees, which further underlines the relevance of the new center.

The construction of the logistics center in Bietigheim not only shows Amazon's commitment to expansion and growth in Germany, but also illustrates the region's continuous development as an attractive business location. The local authorities hope that this project will not only create jobs, but also generate positive impulses for the local economy.
