The BRICS alliance is unimpressed by the threats of the newly elected US President Donald Trump and plans to finally abandon the US dollar by 2025. While Trump threatens 100 percent tariffs, the group is determined: de-dollarization is mandatory as long as the USA does not reduce its sanctions, as watcher.guru reports.
But why this radical step? Former IMF director and Brazilian economist Paulo Nogueira Batista Jr. explains: The sanctions are driving the BRICS countries to this financial bombshell. “We are not against the dollar – the dollar is against us,” said Batista. In doing so, they want to free themselves from the effects of the sanctions, which particularly affect Russia and Iran. Nevertheless, there is controversy: India is already talking about possible cooperation with Trump, and China also seems to have open ears for the US President.
