Cocktail Championship 2025: Unruh from Zurich impresses the jury!
As part of the renowned cocktail competition “Made in GSA”, which has been organized annually since 2013 by the bar culture magazine “Mixology”, Wladimir Reichert was able to convince the jury with his cocktail “Unruh”. The winner comes from Zurich and works in the “Studio” bar. The creative drink consists of a harmony of whiskey, vermouth, Maraschino liqueur and a non-alcoholic distillate based on smoked juniper and various conifers. This was reported by the regional newspaper NW.de reported.
The competition not only promotes the art of cocktail mixing, but also highlights the use of regional ingredients from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and South Tyrol. The abbreviation GSA stands for Germany, Switzerland, Austria. The competition is considered the largest cross-brand cocktail competition in German-speaking countries.
The placements
Marcus Dreßler from Hamburg took second place with his drink, while Bianca Steinbusch from the “Schwarzes Schaf” bar in Bamberg took third place. In the special category for non-alcoholic cocktails, Lea Folger, also from “The Black Sheep”, was able to convince.
Another notable cocktail competition, the “Made in GSA”, in Cologne saw Paul Pelzer from the Cologne Bar Suderman as the winner. His cocktail “Meeting” is a clever combination of the classics Negroni and Manhattan. The jury praised the drink for its “complex” taste composition. Ingredients include whiskey, gin, Riesling vermouth, cherry bitters and a blend of Swiss herbal bitters. This information comes from the website Merkur.de.
Jury and motto
The motto of the competition is “Home in a Glass” and the jury consisted of recognized experts such as Marie Rausch, Sigrid Schot and Thomas Huhn. Due to the corona pandemic, the final had to be postponed from May to the end of August and the number of participants was limited to just 30 people. Dominik Oswald from Vienna secured second place in this competition with the cocktail “Only You Alone”, while Linda Le from Bamberg took third place with her drink “Spielwiese”.
“Made in GSA” remains a central part of bar culture, not only promoting talented bartenders, but also focusing on the love of regional ingredients.
