Germans shy away from jobs abroad: only 7% are actively looking abroad

According to a new study by the job platform StepStone in collaboration with the management consultancy Boston Consulting Group and the job exchange network The Network, Germans are not particularly interested in going abroad for their jobs. The survey data shows that only 7 percent of participants living in Germany are actively looking for a job in another country.

In contrast, the data shows that a total of 23 percent of the 150,735 people surveyed from 188 countries are generally interested in a job abroad. This suggests that interest in international career opportunities is greater in other parts of the world than in Germany.

The study therefore shows that Germans are more hesitant than other countries when it comes to pursuing professional opportunities in another country. This could be due to various factors such as cultural ties, language barriers or family responsibilities.

It remains to be seen whether this attitude will change in the future and whether more Germans will dare to go abroad for work. Given global connectivity and the increasing importance of international experiences, attitudes towards a career abroad could change in the long term.
