Digitalization as the key to prosperity: State Minister Mehring inspires Augsburg's economy!
In an important event on May 23rd at the Scheidle & Partner law firm in the Augsburg Innovation Arch, Dr. Fabian Mehring, the new Bavarian State Minister for Digital, discussed the current opportunities and challenges of digitalization. A total of around 70 representatives from industry, medium-sized businesses, finance and the public sector took part in this event, which was led by lawyer Dr. Dirk-Hermann Voß was moderated. The hosts were the law firm partners Dr. Matthias Seiler, Dr. Sebastian Bachmann and Dr. Quirin Ullmann. The event highlighted the importance that digitalization has not only for economic development, but also for sustainable prosperity in the Free State of Bavaria.
Dr. Mehring, who was recently sworn into the Bavarian state parliament and thus took over the digital department from Judith Gerlach, described Bavaria as a “digital hotspot in Europe” with far-reaching growth opportunities. He called for the acceleration of digital processes in order to use digitalization as a central driver for economic development. He sees the Digital Ministry as a ministry of the future that should act at the interface between home and high-tech. He also emphasized this in his speech during the event.
The new digital minister and his visions
Dr. Fabian Mehring, 34 years old and from Swabia, expressed his delight at his appointment by Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder and the approval of the state parliament. He plans to continue Judith Gerlach's pioneering work and further develop the ministry. “Digitalization is a central issue of our time,” emphasized Mehring, highlighting the central role of his ministry in the digital transformation of the Bavarian economy.
The focus of his agenda includes the digitalization of administration, which is intended to build a bridge between citizens and the authorities, as well as the reduction of bureaucracy. Another goal is to strengthen the population's trust in politics and to promote equal living conditions throughout Bavaria. “Digitalization must not only arrive in urban areas, but must also be felt in rural areas,” said Mehring during the event.
Importance of pioneering work
Judith Gerlach, who has headed the ministry since 2018, handed over her position with pride for the achievements of the employees in the Digital Ministry. She highlighted the importance of the ministry's pioneering work on digital policy not only in Bavaria, but also in Germany and Europe. The transition to Dr. Mehring, who approaches the challenges of digitalization with fresh enthusiasm and new ideas, promises to continue the positive development.
The event in Augsburg once again showed how important the dialogue between business, politics and society is in order to successfully shape the future of Bavaria in times of digitalization.
