A CEO couple under pressure: Gupta leads Idorsia into stormy times!

Married couple Vas Narasimhan and Srishti Gupta are at the center of a remarkable chapter in the pharmaceutical industry. While Narasimhan serves as CEO of Novartis, Gupta was recently appointed as the new CEO of Idorsia. This position of Gupta became necessary as Idorsia is going through ups and downs in financial situation. NZZ reports that Gupta is supposed to tackle the challenges that the company has faced in getting a grip on losses of assets over the years.

Idorsia, which has been active in the industry since 2017 and has around 550 employees, is currently struggling to overcome financial losses. The company was founded by Martine and Jean-Paul Clozel, who wanted to play a visionary role in biopharmaceutical innovation. Gupta, who has also served on Idorsia's Board of Directors since 2021, brings over 20 years of experience in global healthcare and biopharmaceuticals, including 18 years at McKinsey & Company. Globenewswire highlights that Gupta holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School.

The realignment of Idorsia

Gupta's appointment officially takes effect on July 1, 2025, succeeding André C. Muller, who has been CEO since June 2024 and is now retiring to an advisory role. Muller is recognized for his successful financial restructuring and promotion of the new drug QUVIVIQ. Gupta will now be responsible for better marketing Idorsia's two existing drugs and achieving the targeted break-even point. According to NZZ It is critical for Gupta to take strategic action in this new role to secure the future of Idorsia.

Idorsia's leadership team will also change from July 2025. Jean-Paul Clozel will remain as Chairman of the Board, while Gupta will continue to serve as a member of the Executive Board but will step down from the Nominating, Governance and Compensation Committee. Other board members include Mathieu Simon and Bart Filius, who will hold important positions in the company's management. Globenewswire emphasizes the importance this strategic restructuring for Idorsia.

Family life of the Narasimhans

Vas Narasimhan and Srishti Gupta live in Basel and have Swiss citizenship. They are parents of two sons and emphasize the importance of balancing career and family. Both have found individual ways to reduce their stress: Gupta practices yoga every day, while Narasimhan exercises regularly and pays attention to his sleep. This commitment to a balanced family life is also evident in their discussions about the companies that they say will be taboo in the future. NZZ highlights that they try to focus on their family and reduce the pressure that comes with leadership roles.
