Duck family blocks S-Bahn: Police on duty to rescue chicks!

On Monday evening, May 12, 2025, a family of ducks caused significant delays in S-Bahn traffic in Hamburg-Altona. Passers-by discovered the pair of ducks with their ducklings on the tracks and promptly informed the federal police. At 8pm the line was closed for safety reasons while power to the tracks was switched off to protect animals and prevent an accident. This was reported by the South German newspaper.

However, the duck family didn't make it easy for the federal police officers; She went into the S-Bahn tunnel, which made the rescue operation a little more complicated. A team of officials was forced to search for the animals in the tunnel. At first they were only able to capture the ten chicks, which were secured in a cage.

Rescue operation in full swing

The parent duck and the drake initially evaded the rescue operation, which further challenged the federal police officers in their work. The emergency services received further support from employees of DB Security and the fire department, who were also on site. After a while we finally managed to catch the duck parents.

After the entire family was secured, all animals were released unharmed into a nearby park. At 9:40 p.m., the route was reopened after more than an hour and a half, without any significant disruption to S-Bahn traffic being reported. Picture reports that the rescue operation ended with a positive outcome for all involved.
