FDP: Economic turnaround required – Skudelny and Abel surprise!

Around 40 guests came together at the FDP's New Year's reception in the Waldzimmern business park near Niedernhall. Judith Skudelny and Valentin Abel discussed the economic challenges facing the country, particularly in light of current economic concerns. Abel emphasized the central role of a stable economy in people's life planning.

A central concern of Skudelny was the FDP proposals for an “economic turnaround”. These include measures such as reducing bureaucracy, reforming the welfare state, securing jobs and increasing competitiveness. She also warned that many jobs were at risk due to the war in Ukraine. Companies struggled with the loss of trading relationships and faced the challenge of converting their energy systems.

Demands on energy policy and tax screws

Skudelny said that switching to renewable energy is necessary, but too expensive at the current rate. She called for an end to Germany's solo approach to energy policy and emphasized the climate-friendly role of nuclear energy. She also spoke out in favor of tax cuts, while at the same time underlining the importance of a fair social system that puts people into paid work. She called for a greater gap between wages and social benefits for those unwilling to work.

With regard to future political cooperation, Skudelny emphasized the need for cooperation with the Union and ruled out cooperation with the SPD and the Greens. Abel added that the traffic light government once had common goals and the FDP was able to successfully implement some of its issues. He believes that ending the traffic light government makes sense because the common views have been used up. Despite poor poll numbers, Abel is aiming for a double-digit result like in 2021 and is observing a trend towards more personal responsibility as a basic liberal value and increasing interest in the FDP.
