Gas demand in Europe at its lowest point: March 2024 only 385 TWh

Gas demand in European countries hit a six-month low in March, falling to 385 TWh. Compared to the same month last year, when demand was around 419 TWh, there is a decrease of 8 percent. In Germany, gas demand fell to 91.7 TWh, which corresponds to a decrease of 10 percent compared to March 2023 (82.3 TWh).

In the past few months from October 2023 to March 2024, the total demand for gas in Europe was 2505 TWh, with Germany recording a consumption of 540 TWh. Despite the short cold spells in January 2024 and November 2023, the overall balance remained at the level of the previous winter of 2022, when demand was 2530 TWh and 538 TWh, respectively.

The lower gas demand in March could be due to various factors such as the general economic situation, energy efficiency measures or even weather conditions. A detailed analysis of the reasons for this decline could provide important insights for the energy industry and influence future developments.
