Gas supply in winter: Experts do not see any bottlenecks, the population does not want to heat less.
Last winter, people in Germany heated less because energy costs were very high. This savings potential now seems to have been exhausted, according to an article on t-online.de.
In response to the import ban on Russian gas, LNG terminals were built in Wilhelmshaven and Lubmin to ensure gas supplies in Germany and to replenish gas storage facilities for the next heating season.
The population was increasingly made aware of the issue of energy saving by the Federal Network Agency and politicians. The gas supply has now eased, but a possible gas shortage in the event of a very long and cold winter cannot be ruled out.
According to a survey by YouGov on behalf of the dpa, two thirds of the population are not worried about natural gas becoming scarce in the coming winter. However, 24 percent of adults fear a gas shortage.
Around a third of those surveyed would like to heat less this winter, primarily for cost reasons. Some want to act in solidarity and protect the climate. In contrast, 52 percent of those surveyed would like to heat as much as last winter because there is no further potential for savings or they find it too uncomfortable.
When it comes to showering, around two thirds of those surveyed do not want to accept any loss of comfort, while almost a quarter are prepared to take shorter, less frequent or colder showers. Here too, saving money plays the biggest role.
Klaus Müller, head of the Federal Network Agency, emphasizes that the gas storage facilities are well filled and Germany can cope with a normal to slightly cold winter by using gas sparingly. In addition, the industry has reduced its gas consumption and Germany is better prepared than in the previous year when it comes to storage and procurement.
Müller praises the population's awareness of energy saving and emphasizes that it is also important to carefully consider consumption next winter. If you use gas sparingly, you can save a lot of money next winter.
