Growing importance of female founders

In Germany there is increasing interest in self-employment among women. According to the KfW start-up monitor, women only make up around 20% of founders, even though they represent 50% of the population. This discrepancy is reinforced by, among other things, challenges such as financing, balancing family and work, and current stereotypes. On average, women receive only a third of the financing that male founders can raise, and only 5% of venture capital financing flows into start-ups run by women. Nevertheless, women often develop innovative models that particularly address needs in the areas of health, education and sustainability.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has made the situation more difficult, it has also created new opportunities in flexible working models and digital business areas. Studies show that start-ups run by women generate 78 cents in profit per euro invested, while male-led companies only generate 31 cents. This data proves that female entrepreneurship not only meets needs but can also be economically successful.

Success stories and perspectives

Founders like Verena Pausder from Fox & Sheep, who revolutionized digital education, or Lea-Sophie Cramer, who opened a new e-commerce market with Amorelie, are excellent examples of successful women in business. These entrepreneurs show how important purpose-oriented business models and strategic networks are. An authentic leadership style based on collaboration and empathy is also crucial for success.

The numbers show a positive trend for female entrepreneurship in Germany. More and more support structures are emerging and the visibility of female role models is increasing. However, to further improve the situation, targeted measures are necessary, such as entrepreneurial education in schools or a national investment fund for start-ups run by women.

With initiatives such as the “Founders and Entrepreneurs Café” and the “KoStelle on Tour”, women in the Cuxhaven region are offered a platform to exchange ideas and network. These events help to sustainably change economic culture through the voice of women.
