Craft meets enjoyment: Bayreuth's creative young talents inspire!

On May 23, 2025, the event “Merchants meets Crafts 2.0” took place in the Ecological-Botanical Garden of the University of Bayreuth. This initiative brought together aspiring master bakers and confectioners from the Chamber of Crafts for Upper Franconia as well as commercial trainees from Gedikom GmbH to develop and present innovative products. The event is part of an ongoing project that started with a kick-off event on May 16, 2024 and aims to promote regional culinary delights.

Six teams competed against each other in this competition and impressed with their craftsmanship and creativity in the field of marketing. The “geranissimo orange” team secured the first prize of 500 euros, while the “berrycha taco” team was awarded a voucher for 200 euros for second place. The products were developed with botanical garden herbs in mind, including lemon marigold, scented geranium and pipicha.

Project content and involvement of visitors

The teams had the opportunity to put their ideas into practice on May 22nd. In a manufacturing phase, the products were calculated and content was created for social media. Visitors were actively involved during the presentation and sale in the Botanical Garden. Live cooking processes, a competition and small gifts created a welcoming atmosphere. The donation proceeds totaling 1,200 euros will benefit the Botanical Garden's support group and will enable the purchase of a new bench.

A jury of five members, including industry experts such as Julia Grommes and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Ferfas, assessed the teams' performances. The focus of the event and the project was on combining craftsmanship with commercial knowledge and thus sustainably promoting training in the field of culinary arts.
