Inflation rate rises slightly - price increases in education and catering
Inflation in Bavaria rose to 2.5 percent last month after falling for three months. Despite the current slight increase, the inflation rate is among the lowest in recent years. The authority found particularly strong price increases in the education sector at 9.7 percent, in restaurants and accommodation services at 5.8 percent, and in alcoholic beverages and tobacco products at 4.3 percent. In contrast, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages were below average at 1.4 percent, although this area had often previously driven inflation.
One area that again contributed strongly to lower inflation was household energy, with a decline of 4.5 percent. However, these price reductions came from very high levels after years of sharp increases. The future outlook for inflation is mixed. The Munich Ifo Institute recently reported a slight increase in price expectations in companies and predicts that Germany-wide inflation will not fall any further in the coming months for the time being.
