Young people from Namibia: New hope in Berlin's skills shortage!
Berlin's economy is opening an exciting chapter! In the fight against the urgent shortage of skilled workers, the capital will soon boast Namibian talent! A brand new training center will open its doors in the twin city of Windhoek. Here, young people should not only be trained, but also started in careers in which the shortage of skilled workers is already leaving huge gaps. Commercial and industrial professions as well as specialists in the hospitality industry are particularly in demand.
“We have to take new paths to address the growing gap!” emphasizes the President of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sebastian Stietzel. The looming scenario is alarming: Berlin will face a shortage of hundreds of thousands of skilled workers and workers over the next ten years. Stietzel has an ambitious goal - the “Talent Bridge” should become a model for other regions and an effective instrument for securing skilled workers.
Supported directly by experts
The IHK has high standards in mind! The future apprentices in Namibia will be tested under German standards and will have the opportunity to learn the German language before and in parallel to their training. «Lengthy recognition procedures? Not with us! The trainees can move from Windhoek to Berlin immediately after completing their exams and be integrated into the job market,” it says with confidence.
In this way, the enormous challenges of youth unemployment, which is around 50 percent in Namibia, are being tackled not only for German companies, but also for young people in Namibia. There will be no massive exodus of talented workers - because not all graduates will immediately aspire to Berlin. Nevertheless: The future for young people in Namibia could be golden!
A strong network for the future
The authorities in Windhoek are firmly behind this pioneering project! Partners such as the city of Windhoek, the Namibia Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Berlin Senate are united in demonstrating that they support the training offensive. A declaration of intent will be signed this fall - the foundation stone for the construction of the training center will be laid. And the best part? Next summer the city partnership between Berlin and Windhoek will celebrate its 25th anniversary! A perfect time to set the course for a promising future!
