Boy finds rare Lego octopus in Cornwall

A 13-year-old boy from Cornwall, UK, recently made headlines when he discovered a rare Lego octopus from a sunken container dating back to 1997. Liutauras Cemolonskas has been looking for Lego pieces for years that came from the container that fell into the sea during a storm. The plastic octopus found was one of just 4,200 that were on board the container, in what was considered a spectacular find.

So far, the boy has found almost 800 Lego pieces, including 352,000 pairs of Lego diving fins and 97,500 Lego oxygen bottles from the sunken container. His father commented on the long-awaited find and mentioned that they had been looking for the octopus for two years.

The discovery of the Lego octopus has been dubbed the “holy grail of this shipping container” as it is an extremely rare piece. Tracey Williams, a beachcombing expert, described the significance of the find and highlighted the joy many people have at discovering Lego pieces while cleaning beaches. Williams also leads the social media project “Lego Lost At Sea,” which raises awareness of ocean plastic pollution.

Liutauras Cemolonskas' next goal is to find one of a total of 33,941 Lego dragons that fell into the sea. His impressive passion for collecting and joy of discovery have already attracted the attention of the media and viewers as he continues to search for rare Lego treasures from the sunken container.
